Dear Friend,

Two years ago, I helped pass the CHIPS Act and today, it continues to create thousands of jobs for Texas. Last week, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced a $1.6 billion investment in helping Texas Instruments expand operations here in North Texas, thanks to the CHIPS Act. Texas Instruments has long been a stalwart of innovation and industry in our region, and this investment will help them create 2,000 manufacturing jobs, and thousands of construction jobs.

Throughout my time in Congress, I’ve worked with both parties to bring semiconductor chip manufacturing to Texas. Chips power everything from cell phones to cars– making them here in Texas will create long-term economic success for generations of Texans to come.

This is the third major job-creating investment in Texas we’ve seen since the CHIPS Act was signed into law. Last month, GlobalWafers was awarded $400 million from the CHIPS Act to produce semiconductors and create over 2,500 jobs at facilities in Sherman, Texas and in St. Peters, Missouri. Samsung received $6 billion in CHIPS Act funds in April to expand and invest in operations in the Austin area, which will create 17,500 construction jobs and 4,500 manufacturing jobs.

I am deeply committed to building on this important legislation. I helped lead the bicameral Building Chips in America Act to streamline the permitting process and maximize the benefits of the CHIPS Act while maintaining environmental protections.

As a part of the CHIPS Act, I also supported Southern Methodist University in Dallas as one of 31 Tech Hubs across America. I also helped secure $400,000 for the University of Texas at Dallas to strengthen their work on semiconductor research and helped secure funds for semiconductor workforce training at the University of Texas at Dallas.

The CHIPS Act is proof that when we work together we can do big things for Texas and our nation. I will continue to find ways to bring even more investments like these home to North Texas.

Sincerely,
