As a proud mama and lifelong Michgander, I am thrilled to share Vote Mama candidates dominated in this month’s primary election — maintaining our 100% win rate in the Great Lakes State!

There is no doubt: pro-choice moms are saving democracy and protecting our freedoms one election at a time. 

In 2018, Michigan made history by electing three mamas to lead our state and in 2022, it was mamas who flipped the Michigan state House and Senate to win a Democratic majority for the first time in 40 years.

Now in 2024, it will be mamas who protect our Democratic trifecta by defending and expanding Democrats’ slim legislative majority. Our candidates are organizing to get their message out, going door-to-door contacting voters, making thousands of phone calls. But they can’t do it alone: we need your help.

Earlier this year, Vote Mama endorsed candidate Mai Xiong won a special election making her the first Hmong American to serve in the Michigan legislature. Mai ran and won with four children by her side, ages ranging from 4yrs old to 11yrs old. Now, she must defend her seat this November to maintain the Democratic majority.

Vote Mama candidate and special education teacher Janice O’Neil Robinson is running in one of the most competitive state legislative seats this cycle. Janice is challenging a Republican incumbent who only won the seat last cycle by 730 votes — the closest race in Michigan. When asked why she’s running, Janice stated:

"I wouldn’t be a mama without the help of IVF and conservative politicians want to intervene in a very personal and often challenging journey to becoming parents. Now, my daughter is a teenager and she is my main motivator for getting involved. Our girls are watching. Are we going to stand by and sit on the sidelines while extremists take away our freedoms? Certainly not. And I’m proud to have my daughter by my side in this fight."

If we're going to elect more pro-choice Democratic moms like Mai and Janice, we need to keep building on this positive momentum all the way to November.
