Day One of the Democratic National Convention was ELECTRIFYING.

Closing out the night, President Biden went into detail about his proudest
accomplishments, punctuated by attacks on Trump and crediting Kamala
Harris’s contributions – as the crowd repeatedly interrupted with roars of
"Thank you, Joe!"

"They’ll protect social security and Medicare. Trump wants to cut social
security and Medicare. Kamala and Tim will protect your freedom. They’ll
protect your right to vote. They’ll protect your civil rights.

"Kamala and Tim will continue to take on corporate greed and bring down
the cost of food. They’ll keep taking on Big Pharma, making insulin $35 a
month, not just for seniors but for everyone in America. And capping
prescription drug cost to a total of $2,000, not just for seniors but for
everyone."

Biden then implored, "All of us carry a special obligation. We saved
democracy in 2020, and now we must save it again in 2024."

Jamie Raskin packed punch after punch into his speech, recalling the
insurrection, which Raskin investigated on the Jan 6 committee:

"Remember what the mob chanted as they stormed the Capitol and injured our
officers? 'Hang Mike Pence.' Someone should have told Donald Trump that
the president’s job under Article 2 of the Constitution is to take care
that the laws are faithfully executed, not that the vice president is
executed."

Raskin had a stark warning for Trump's VP pick: "JD Vance, do you
understand why there was a sudden job opening for running mate on the GOP
ticket? They tried to kill your predecessor. They tried to kill him
because he would not follow Trump’s plan to destroy and nullify the votes
of millions of Americans."

Raskin called Trump a "sore loser who does not know how to take no for an
answer from American voters, American courts, or American women."

And he called on Democrats to make this election "a landslide so big that
Donald Trump and his kangaroo court of Supreme Court justices cannot even
try to steal it."

Help make that happen with a weekly donation to the Harris-Walz campaign

Calling Trump a two-bit union buster, AOC lit into Trump in a speech that
repeatedly brought the convention to its feet:

"We know Trump would sell this country for a dollar if it meant lining his
own pockets and greasing palms of his Wall Street friends. I for one am
tired of hearing about how a two-bit union buster thinks of himself as
more of a patriot than the woman who fights every single day to lift
working people out from under the boots of greed trampling on our way of
life.

"The truth is, Don, you cannot love this country if you only fight for the
wealthy and big business. To love this country is to fight for all people,
working people, everyday Americans."

Amid talking about saving freedom, raising the minimum wage, lowering
prescription drug prices, abortion rights, and corporate greed, AOC said
this about Kamala Harris:

"I am here tonight because America has before us a rare and precious
opportunity in Kamala Harris. We have a chance to elect a president who is
for the middle class because she is from the middle class. She understands
the urgency of rent checks and groceries and prescriptions. She is as
committed to our reproductive and civil rights as she is to taking on
corporate greed."

"In Kamala Harris, I see a leader who understands. I see a leader with a
real commitment to a better future for working families."

And, of course, there was Hillary Clinton, who spoke of the breaking the
glass ceiling:

"Together, we’ve put a lot of cracks in the highest, hardest glass
ceiling. And tonight, tonight’s so close to breaking through once and for
all.

"I want to tell you what I see through all those cracks and why it matters
for each and every one of us. I see freedom. I see the freedom to make our
own decisions about our health, our lives, our loves, our families.

"The freedom to work with dignity and prosper. To worship as we choose, or
not. To speak our minds freely and honestly. I see freedom from fear and
intimidation, from violence and injustice, from chaos and corruption. I
see the freedom to look our children in the eye and say, 'In America, you
can go as far as your hard work and talent will take you,' and mean it.

"And you know what? On the other side of that glass ceiling is Kamala
Harris raising her hand and taking the oath of office as our 47th
President of the United States. Because my friends, when a barrier falls
for one of us, it falls and clears the way for all of us."
