We can put the health of the planet before economic interests.

One year ago today
, Ecuador made history by becoming the first nation to keep oil in the ground by popular vote. This landmark decision to protect Yasuní National Park – the most biodiverse place on Earth – is a victory for climate action, environmental justice, and Indigenous rights.

However, the Yasuní victory is now at risk, as the government has yet to fulfill its obligation to decommission oil fields threatening this precious ecosystem. The Waorani people, guardians of Yasuní, continue to stand strong in their fight for their land, culture, and the planet's future.

At Amazon Watch, we remain steadfast in our commitment to support the National Waorani Organization of Ecuador (NAWE) and all Indigenous Peoples in their struggle for a fossil-free future, advocating for their rights and amplifying their voices on the global stage.

Together, we must ensure that Yasuní remains a symbol of hope and a testament to the power of collective action in addressing the climate crisis.
