“We salute Dr. Fuentes-Afflick on her appointment to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences,” Board Chair Melvin Ming said. “Her experiences treating young children, coupled with her academic training and research practice, make her insights highly valued, authentic, and bold. A clarion voice for children, ever mindful of their needs, fears, and aspirations, she is the perfect recipient for this prestigious honor.”
Dr. Fuentes-Afflick obtained her undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in Public Health (Epidemiology) from the University of California, Berkeley. Her scholarly work has focused on the broad themes of acculturation, immigrant health, health disparities, faculty misconduct, and faculty development.
She joins 276 artists, scholars, scientists, and leaders in the public, non-profit, and private sectors elected to the Academy's Class of 2020.
Congratulations on a well-deserved honor!
