Hey JOhn,

It's DNC week! The Democratic National Convention where history is made.

If you’ll recall, it was only a few conventions ago when the junior senator from Illinois introduced himself on the national stage as “a skinny kid with a funny name” who later became America’s first Black President and my boss.

That speech resonated with me in 2004 and now in 2024. I also grew up as a kid with a funny name. My parents came to this country with big dreams that I could have every opportunity and do great things, dreams that I continue to support for my daughters.

In my career in public service, I took President Obama’s words to heart:

“There are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Well, I say to them tonight, there's not a liberal America and a conservative America - there's the United States of America.

There's not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there's the United States of America.”

MAGA extremists are throwing hundreds of millions into this Election to stop progress and enact their regressive Project 2025 agenda, but we will not go back.

Now in Chicago, we’re set to make history again by nominating our first Black woman and first South Asian presidential nominee of a major political party.
