Come join us for postcarding at Santa Monica Brew Works as we reach out to constituents of Los Angeles City Councilmembers to encourage them to contact their councilmember in support of a ceasefire resolution through LA City Council. We will meet at 6:30pm on Friday, August 23rd. See you there!

Tenants FixLA Reality Tour: San Fernando Valley

Thursday, August 22 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm

Join DSA-LA and the FixLA coalition for a tour of the San Fernando Valley council districts to highlight the horrific conditions thousands of tenants and workers are living under due to inadequate enforcement of tenant protections and rents that are too high. We will be calling on city council to strengthen existing tenant protections, commit resources to hold abusive landlords accountable, and establish stronger rent controls.

The tour will be launching from SEIU 721’s union hall in Westlake at 8:30 AM and will return by 2:00 PM. Residents living in San Fernando can also join the tour at Van Nuys City Hall at 9:45 AM.

Canvass for our Candidates!

Karla Griego for LAUSD School Board

Karla is a parent, teacher, and activist who has been working and organizing at school sites, on picket lines, in town halls, and in the community to bring all of us together to win the schools that Los Angeles deserves. Get involved with our movement and come out and canvass with us!

Ysabel Jurado for LA City Council District 14

It’s finally here folks, the general election is in full swing. During the primary DSA-LA knocked on over 8000 doors in Eagle Rock. Thanks to our members, Ysabel Jurado was able to clinch a first place win in the primary. Now it’s time to get her over the finish line!

Jillian Burgos for LA City Council District 2

Jillian Burgos is a true grassroots socialist, serving her community as a NoHo neighborhood councilmember, housing and homelessness advocate, and essential healthcare worker. Frequently spotted on the picket lines with DSA-LA, Jillian is keenly aware of just how powerful our presence is.  As an Afro-Latina from a working-class background, Burgos was CD-2's biggest underdog, and the results of targeted canvassing blew us away in the primary. Out raised up to 12X by our opponents, she enlisted the help of volunteers in her community to knock on doors and spread hope for change in the Valley. Now, our people-powered candidate needs YOU to secure her seat at LA City Council. It's time to end the status quo politics that have plagued the valley for decades and fight for real change.

Champagne Socialism: A Left-Wing Hollywood Drinks Night!

Wednesday, August 21 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

DSA-LA Hollywood Labor is proud to present Champagne Socialism: A Leftist Hollywood Drinks Night! Join workers from across the industry for a fun, low-key space to discuss the worker’s struggle in Hollywood! Whether you’re new to DSA, a longtime member, or have literally never heard of us before, if you’re interested in making a Hollywood that works for its workers–and meeting other leftists in the industry–this is the event for you!

Along with getting to know each other, we’ll be writing postcards to get out the vote for Ysabel Jurado’s campaign for Los Angeles City Council District 14! DSA-LA is proud to endorse Ysabel, a tenants rights lawyer running for to represent Los Angeles City Council District 14. Born and raised in Highland Park, she’s spent her career fighting to protect her community and the people who live in it.

When Hollywood went on strike last year, Ysabel was a constant presence on the picket lines, showing up with solidarity and making Snackpack deliveries. She showed up for Hollywood workers, so now’s our time to show up for her!

DSA 101: Westside

Sunday, August 25 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Are you new or newly returning to DSA? To Los Angeles? To the Left? Then join us for DSA 101!

At this orientation, we’ll talk about what capitalism is, how it functions, and why socialism is ideologically opposed to it. Participants will also learn about the history of our organization and our chapter in particular, the current projects we’re working on, and how you can get involved. This is not a lecture, but a meeting for new and veteran organizers to ground ourselves in socialist theory and discuss together how we can put it into action. We’re excited to chat with you!

All are welcome! We’ll meet in the UTLA Building in Koreatown (3303 Wilshire Blvd), room TBD. This location is accessible by public transit, though you can also park in the building and we will validate your ticket.
