Hi John,
One in 36 children and 1 in 45 adults are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. This statistic is backed by research and science. Yet, there is still widespread and dangerous misinformation about autism in our society that is sometimes supercharged by social media.
At Autism Speaks, our focus remains serving and supporting the entire autism community, including the millions of parents and caregivers of autistic children who are seeking answers and solutions from trusted, science-based sources.
That's why we worked with the World Health Organization to create the Caregiver Skills Training (CST) program. CST teaches parents and caregivers day-to-day skills that bring play and routine into their kids' lives and build foundational communication and practical living skills. Support powerful programs for autistic kids and their families like CST with a gift today >>
For us at Autism Speaks, fighting misinformation is more than “playing defense” against runaway myths or social media conspiracy theories about autism.
We also “walk the walk” and make sure individuals and families who could be impacted by misinformation have the essential resources, services and research-backed answers to help them thrive in the short and long terms. For kids and for families in underserved areas, in particular, this sharing of knowledge and support can be transformational.
We still have a lot of work to do, John. But we don't — and can't — do it alone. Donate today to provide life-enhancing, proven programs like Caregiver Skills Training at NO cost to autistic kids and their families:
Thank you for all you do,
Dr. Andy Shih
