### Kamala’s Comments About the “Swipe of My Pen” Should Scare Us All
Kamala Harris has adopted a strategy reminiscent of Barack Obama’s “pen and phone” approach, wielding her authority with alarming ease. With a mere stroke of her pen, she has the ability to charge individuals, potentially leading to devastating consequences for their lives.
In her own words, she reflects on this power:
“I learned that with the swipe of my pen, I could charge someone with the lowest level offense. And because of the swipe of my pen, that person could be arrested; they could sit in jail for at least 48 hours, could lose time from work and their family, and maybe lose their job. They’d have to come out of their own pocket to help hire a lawyer. They’d lose standing in their community. All because of the swipe of my pen. Weeks later, I could dismiss the charges, but their life would be forever changed. So I learned at a very young age the power to impact real human beings.”
While Harris claims to understand the weight of her power, her actions tell a different story. She has a troubling history of prosecuting young people—primarily from minority communities—for low-level offenses, often leading to long prison sentences.
The most memorable critique of Harris came from Rep. Tulsi Gabbard during the Democratic debates. Gabbard confronted Harris directly, stating, “You put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when you were asked if you ever smoked marijuana.” Gabbard demanded accountability, asserting that Harris owed an apology to those who suffered under her policies.
And as President? The suffering could be so much worse.
