As you're no doubt aware, Democrats are gathering in Chicago this week to show the American people who Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are and what Democrats stand for.
As Vice President, Kamala Harris has supported key legislation for rural communities like the the Inflation Reduction Act and the Rural Broadband Program, but she has also been a strong advocate for abortion rights — an issue that has disproportionate effects on rural communities because abortion bans not only stop life saving and routine medical procedures, but also drive rural health care provides away from rural states that have abortion bans.
Tim Walz is a former teacher and member of the National Guard, whose rural roots run deep. While in Congress, Walz represented a largely rural district and focused on the kitchen table issues that matter most to rural families — things like veterans affairs, health care, and workers rights. Now as governor Tim Walz has fought for paid family leave, abortion rights, gun control, and many other issues that are incredibly important to every American.
OCP is on the ground in Chicago and we look forward to joining our fellow Americans in celebrating our smart, progressive, experienced, and joyful candidates!
Are you in Chicago, too?
In collaboration with the DNC Rural Caucus, we're hosting a two-day program focusing on key issues affecting rural communities, including the economy, women's reproductive rights and abortion, democracy, healthcare, and education. The program will also feature training on effective communication, community mobilization, and organizing strategies. Attendees will leave equipped with actionable requests to activate their states and communities, ultimately supporting the election of Vice President Harris and Governor Walz.
