Your weekly Indivisible Newsletter Indivisibles,
It’s Democratic National Convention week!
Politicos, delegates, journalists, and more are converging on Chicago, Illinois to celebrate the nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris and Coach Tim Walz as the Democratic nominees for president and vice president.
In anticipation, Harris rolled out the beginnings of her platform, focused on economic proposals if (when 😉) she becomes president. A few highlights include:
- Taking on corporate landlords to lower rent prices
- $25,000 in downpayment assistance for first-time homeowners
- Capping insulin costs for everyone at $35
- Capping out of pocket expenses for prescription drugs
- Federal ban on corporate price gouging on food and groceries
- Restoring and expanding tax credits to families and low-income workers
- And more…
With Harris already focused on so many great proposals, we can be assured a Harris presidency will be a presidency for the people.
The path to her presidency begins in earnest this week at the DNC with speeches running the gamut from The Tennessee Three, AOC, and Bernie to President Biden, former President Barack Obama, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and Sec. Hillary Clinton -- the party is unified behind this new energy.
The whole week will culminate in Vice President Harris’ speech on Thursday, and that’s where you come in:
Host a watch party for Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris’ DNC speech on Thursday, August 22.
As Vice President Harris continues to energize new voters across the country, it’s crucial that we harness this energy and transform it into action all the way through November. So, let’s make an event out of Harris’ convention speech. You can register your event here, and if you need planning help, use our simple House Party Toolkit.
But, keep it simple:
- Gather your friends and family
- Watch the speech together
- Make an ask at the end for people to participate in Neighbor2Neighbor (if eligible) or any of our State to State resources
- Follow up afterward with attendees with a friendly reminder about the ask
These don’t need to be massive, press-oriented events. In fact, they shouldn’t be. These should be the type of community fun you might think of for a Superbowl party or to watch the Olympics.
Make a dip. Put out some finger foods. Whip up a hotdish. Let’s make saving our democracy a fun time.

Your weekly to-dos
- Register for our national phonebank into Nevada for Kamala Harris this Friday, August 23 at 3pm ET/12pm PT. The Democratic National Convention concludes on Thursday with a speech by Vice President Harris, and we’ll be capitalizing on the energy of seeing Kamala take the stage by making calls on Friday. We’ll be dialing into Nevada -- one of the top presidential battlegrounds where the election will be decided this year. Come help us make sure Nevadans are fired up and ready to catapult Kamala into the Oval Office. If you can’t make this phonebank, sign up for one of our upcoming opportunities here.
- Register for Women Wednesdays for Harris weekly **RESTARTING WEDNESDAY 8/28** at 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT through the election. Women Wednesdays is taking a break this week to encourage everyone to watch the DNC. But restarting next week, every Wednesday through Election Day, we will be partnering on a national call bringing together women from all across the country to build community, strategize, and share tools to drive a Harris victory in November. The August 28 call will focus on the most effective ways to share our personal stories. Stay tuned to hear about the special guests.
- Check out our new Project 2025 resources. You asked for more specific resources on Project 2025, its impact, and how we need to talk about it to win in November, and we answered. Project 2025 is the most thorough blueprint we have ever seen from MAGA Republicans on how they plan to strip away our rights, protections, and freedoms if they achieve power. But as dangerous as their plan is for the American people, it is just as damaging to their electability. But only when people know about it. We have to make sure people understand just how extreme Project 2025 intends to be, and here’s your literature to do it.
Sign up for Neighbor2Neighbor -- Check to see if it’s available in your area, and help get out the vote. We have opened our highly effective, community conversation program -- Neighbor2Neighbor. If you want to have the biggest impact on voter turnout, this is the most effective way we’ve found to mobilize community members (our numbers prove it). Check and see if Neighbor2Neighbor is available in your area and, if it is, sign up today.
P.S. We rely on your support to keep call pages up and running, fund ads to get the word out, and continue all the work we’re doing this year. If you’re able, click here to donate to help fund our work.
Majority Over MAGA Book Talk with Ari Berman
Register for Co-Executive Director Ezra Levin’s conversation with Ari Berman -- author of Minority Rule -- on Wednesday, September 4 at 5pm ET/2pm PT.
The mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, represented an extreme form of the central danger facing American democracy today: a blatant disregard for the will of the majority.
This crisis didn’t begin or end with Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Through voter suppression, election subversion, gerrymandering, dark money, the takeover of the courts, and the whitewashing of history, reactionary white conservatives have strategically entrenched power in the face of a massive demographic and political shift. Ari Berman charts these efforts with sweeping historical research and incisive on-the-ground reporting, chronicling how a wide range of antidemocratic tactics interact with profound structural inequalities in institutions like the Electoral College, the Senate, and the Supreme Court to threaten the survival of representative government in America.
Chilling and revelatory, Minority Rule exposes the long history of the conflict between white supremacy and multiracial democracy that has reached a fever pitch today -- while also telling the inspiring story of resistance to these regressive efforts. Sign up for the book conversation today!

Demand Your Members of Congress Call For A Ceasefire
**Content Warning: Talk about the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Jump to the line break if you need to avoid this topic.** |
Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly agreed to a mediated agreement meant to bridge the gap between his government and Hamas on a ceasefire. This is a good sign of progress toward a durable peace, as it is the closest Netanyahu’s government has come to a full deal at the negotiating table.
Unfortunately, Hamas has not agreed to the proposals yet, and has referred to the proposal as slanted toward Israel.
What does this all mean? We are closer to a ceasefire agreement, the return of the hostages, and the administration of humanitarian aid than we have been at any point since Oct. 7th, but we still have ground to cover.
That means it’s still crucial that we continue to contact our representatives and tell them to use every tool at their disposal to push this agreement over the finish line. It is past time for peace.

Join us for Apathy To Action -- Understanding the Threats Our Democracy Faces on Monday, August 26 at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
What does it mean for democracy to be under attack? Is fear of a descent toward authoritarianism rational? We’ll be partnering with the Protect Democracy Project to talk about what these ideas mean in an American context and walk us through the forecasted implications of what we’re seeing on a daily basis. We’ll follow that up by exploring what it means to prepare ourselves, be vigilant for one another, and safeguard our rights and our democracy moving forward.
