Hi John,
Dr. Anthony Fauci is without a doubt the most competent member of the White House’s coronavirus task force.
For the past four decades, he’s been the leading infectious disease expert in the country and has carried out research to prevent, diagnose, and treat emerging diseases such as HIV/AIDS, respiratory infections, malaria, Ebola, Zika, and more.
Trump, on the other hand, just suggested an “injection” of disinfectant could be used to “clean” the lungs to beat COVID-19, prompting Lysol to release a statement urging people not to ingest their products.
After Fauci stated that if the administration had taken swifter and earlier action, lives could have been saved, Trump took to Twitter to shared a post with the hashtag “#FireFauci” -- a sign that the president could be willing to remove Dr. Fauci from the task force at any time.
This is cause for concern. Trump ousted Dr. Rick Bright, who led the United States Department of Health and Human Services efforts in developing a vaccine, for questioning the broad use of the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 without proper scientific evidence.
Now more than ever, we need to rely on science and experts to guide decision making. Trump’s war on science and expertise is exceedingly dangerous, and it has allowed the COVID pandemic to cause much more pain and suffering that could have been avoided. Enough is enough.
I appreciate your standing with me today.
Thank you,
Nancy
