John,

We have a real shot at stopping Trump, preventing Project 2025, and saving democracy this year. I’d even say we’re in a much better position now than we were a year ago.

But on the local and state level, the situation has only gotten worse.

Two years ago in Texas, the Department of Education launched a federal investigation into Dr. Jeremy Glenn, a school superintendent. Glenn was caught on tape telling librarians to remove all books that acknowledged the existence of LGBTQ+ people or included gay characters.

Two weeks ago, the school board in another Texas city hired him. Now he’s in charge of even more students’ education, in a district that is actively fighting its own federal civil rights violations.

Last year in Oklahoma, Chaya Raichik of anti-LGBTQ “Libs Of TikTok” fame used grooming conspiracy theories to incite her followers to call in bomb threats against schools and children’s hospitals. Months later, she was hired for a position in the Oklahoma State Dept. of Education.

The official who hired her, State Superintendent Ryan Walters, is facing impeachment for refusing to send schools funding that state lawmakers allocated to increase security and prevent mass shootings.

Just a few months ago in Idaho, my state passed a law that requires public libraries and school libraries to hide or remove books that could be “harmful to children.” All it takes is one person to allege that a book is harmful for it to be affected.

Was this a law requested by Idaho families? No, John, it wasn’t. The law was drafted with help from the Idaho Family Policy Center, a religious organization that trains church members to advocate for abortion bans and prosecuting librarians for exactly this type of law.

These anti-LGBTQ extremists – and, frankly, homophobes – are working their way into state and local positions of power so they can legalize discrimination and challenge our federal laws. But they haven’t won yet.

With a strong Democrat majority in Congress, we CAN AND WILL pass federal protections to secure the rights of people like me to exist in our society, and there’s nothing these extremists can do to stop us.

Will you help me flip the House and give my community more representation in Congress?

On a lighter note, it’s the first day of the DNC and I’m so excited to be here. Shortly after I took this photo, I attended the LGBTQ+ caucus meeting with future Vice President Tim Walz.

A photo of David and another DNC attendee today posing with pro-abortion signs to support Planned Parenthood.

Having a good time in Chicago doesn’t mean I get to take a break from thinking about my community or my state. Being here has only made me want to fight for our freedoms harder.

I know we can stop the spread of this extremism and end the attacks on my rights, women’s rights, immigrants’ rights, and every other group these folks love to hate.

We just have to work together until it’s done.

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
