Our team has been working for months now to uncover county officials across the country who’ve voted to deny or delay certifying election results, so we can stop them from doing it again.

We put together a new report that identifies 35 rogue election officials across the country who have already refused to certify election results, and may be in a position to do so again this fall.

John, this is a big deal—and you can tell it’s important because it’s hitting the media.

We already told you about CREW President Noah Bookbinder’s interview with Rachel Maddow about these rogue election officials and how we can fight back, but here are a few pieces you may have missed:

Noah also joined Joy Reid on the ReidOut to discuss our findings and what this means for our upcoming elections—because we know some county officials have tried to subvert a free and fair election before, and that they may try to avoid certifying again in 2024.

As Noah explained to Joy, when they tried to avoid certification in lower-profile races in 2022, they were doing it as a run-through before the 2024 elections.

This is just a glimpse of where our report has been shared, and it’s spreading far and wide for a good reason: our research highlights the states and the people who are willing to violate the law by refusing to certify an election—and it is something that will have a real effect on whether the election goes smoothly this fall. If any officials use the certification process to politically grandstand again, our report outlines exactly how state authorities, voters or even groups like CREW could fight back and enforce the law.

These rogue election officials don’t have the power to stop a free and fair election—and if they try to do it, we’ll all need to work together to stop them in their tracks.
