Dear John,

Did you know that voting is good for your health? Communities that have higher voting rates have better health outcomes, like lower rates of mortality, asthma, and diabetes. The American College of Physicians even named voting as integral to health.

VoteRiders’ partner Vot-ER leverages this strong connection between a healthy democracy and a healthy community. Vot-ER’s network of over 50,000 individual healthcare professionals work to deliver trusted, nonpartisan information about voting and democracy to their patients. They help people register to vote and remind them to vote all the way down the ballot to be sure their voices are heard for their health and the health of their communities.

When questions about voter ID come up, Vot-ER turns to VoteRiders. Vot-ER partners print and distribute VoteRiders' Voter ID Information Cards [[link removed]] in case someone has a question, and Vot-ER partners refer voters to VoteRiders if they need free help or additional support getting their voter ID.

You can read all about our partnership and the link between health and democracy, on our website.

“Voting is a determinant of health because, through voting, individuals and their communities can communicate their health needs — whether it's through voting for a ballot initiative, a policy, or an elected individual — and these needs will have the opportunity to be addressed and supported,” Emily Polak, vice president of partnerships and organizing at Vot-ER told me. “If elected officials don't hear from their constituents and aren’t aware of what their health needs are, they're not going to take those needs into account when crafting policy and voting on policy.”

That’s why healthy communities power a healthy democracy and a healthy democracy powers healthy communities.

VoteRiders is proud to partner with Vot-ER and its important mission. Be sure to learn more about our work together, and how you can get more involved. >> [link removed]

P.S. At VoteRiders, we always pay for all fees and transportation associated with getting an ID, because we believe cost should never be a barrier to the voting booth. Chip in to help us secure voter IDs for eligible voters before November 5.
