Let's Take Back HD-43, Colorado!
The District
House District 43 is a large portion of Douglas County, including the city of Highlands Ranch. HD-43 leans Republican but was lost to a Democrat, Bob Marshall, in the last election.
The Democrat
The Democrat, Bob Marshall, won the seat by a hair in 2022. In fact, Bob Marshall is the only Democrat elected in Douglas County outside of Douglas County School Board; so Douglas County Republicans would be grateful to remove him from any position of power, considering DougCo does not lean left.
Bob Marshall wrote an extremely anti-police bill in his first term as State Representative, which swiftly died even in the Democrat super majority. The bill, HB23-1206, would have prohibited county Sheriffs from engaging in political activity, whether via fundraising, endorsements, or simply displaying political memorabilia. HB23-1206 was a clear jab at the pro-police movement, and Bob Marshall wants to silence police who wield considerable influence with endorsements and campaigning, almost always on the side of Republicans since Democrats hate police. The bill would have singled out Sheriffs as not being allowed to engage in political activity, but not State Representatives like Bob Marshall, which is election interference by way of First Amendment suppression.
Bob Marshall has disdain for police, as evidenced in the video taken from 2023, when he argued with police and caused a massive disruption.
Bob Marshall serves Douglas County, thanks to an election so close that it went to a recount, so he knows that his seat is vulnerable if he votes for radical issues whilst making noise about those votes. Therefore, Marshall does not speak publicly about most of his controversial votes. Bob voted for HB24-1039, the bill that compels teachers to transition children behind parents' backs by way of using gender-confusing pronouns for students who want to identify as another gender. Marshall also voted Yes on HB24-1071, Name Change to Conform with Gender Identity, the law that allows transgender people convicted of crimes to change their names.
