Dear friend,

This year has not been short of crises posing extreme challenges for millions of families across the globe. The scale of need has been compounded by the growing obstacles to delivering humanitarian aid — and growing threats to emergency responders.

According to the UN, 280 aid workers were killed in 2023, making it the deadliest year on record. Now, 2024 is on track to be even worse as conflict in Gaza, Sudan and beyond continues to put civilians — and the humanitarians who are committed to supporting them — at risk.

The safety of Mercy Corps staff is essential to our ability to provide life-saving assistance to communities trying to survive through devastating crises. From urgently responding to emergencies in Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine to working shoulder-to-shoulder with people in Columbia, Guatemala, and Jordan and beyond, Mercy Corps team members are helping communities recover and rebuild stronger.

In honor of World Humanitarian Day, will you make a gift to our Humanitarian Response Fund to help Mercy Corps team members get all the resources they need to continue effectively responding to the needs of communities on a daily basis?

Here are a couple pictures of me with some of the amazing humanitarians who execute Mercy Corps’ mission every day in Iraq and Lebanon.

As humanitarian workers continue to face increasing violence on the frontlines, we are seeing a blatant disregard for 75 years of International Humanitarian Law that is eroding the foundation of our collective humanity. Healthcare centers, aid convoys, ambulances, schools, and shelters have been under attack, creating more suffering for civilians who need it most.

Aid workers are crucial in responding to emergencies and supporting communities overcoming humanitarian crises. No matter where they are across the globe, humanitarian workers must be protected from violence, assaults, and lethal risks while delivering critical aid to civilians.

Today, on World Humanitarian Day, I honor the dedication, compassion, generosity, and commitment of Mercy Corps’ 6,000+ team members. Because 95% of our team works in the country they are from, they often experience the same challenges as the communities we serve. Their perspectives, relationships, and familiarity with the places they work are critical to our mission.

I am so grateful for you, as your commitment helps drive our efforts and Mercy Corps team members to make a direct impact on the lives of millions of families in 40+ countries where we work. Can I count on you to make a gift to the Humanitarian Response Fund today?

With your support, Mercy Corps can always be ready when emergencies strike — reaching families across the world with clean water, food, economic opportunities, and peaceful tomorrows.

Thank you,

Tjada D’Oyen McKenna,
Mercy Corps Chief Executive Officer
