Hey John,
The Animal Liberation Online Assembly is the largest ever virtual gathering of animal rights activists. During a time of physical distancing, stay connected and find community! Through a series of events, you can be part of a movement that is bringing people together from around the world to achieve revolutionary social and political change for animals! The Keynote Panel Discussion taking place this Saturday, May 2nd, 1 PM PDT will feature investigative journalist, Glenn Greenwald, along with other panelists!
All are welcome, including those new to activism and veganism. To attend and stay updated with event details, you must register for free at dxe.io/ALOA if you haven't already. You will receive more information (call-in links and instructions) after you register.
Together, we will put liberation into action with our own hearts, minds, and hands.
If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all will be taking place in Pacific Time, unless otherwise noted). Action events are highlighted in blue and community events are highlighted in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Thursday, April 30th, 5:30 PM: Meditation: Building Compassion for Our Opponents - Compassion and love motivate activists to take decisive action to help others. By expanding this compassion to embrace as many beings as possible including those who are harming nonhuman animals, we can increase our impact and lead a movement with deep roots in nonviolence. In this session led by Nicky and Miles, we will work with meditation tools that help us deepen our own personal wellbeing while simultaneously expanding our circle of compassion. Miles will guide us in techniques that he has learned through over 10,000 hours of formal meditation practice. This program will be interactive and participants will have the opportunity to practice in small groups as well as collectively as a large group, and discuss their experiences. This event is also part of the Animal Liberation Online Assembly; you will receive information and instructions on how to join once you register for free at dxe.io/ALOA.
- Thursday, April 30th, 7 PM: Networking for Activists (Online Training) - Networking sounds so corporate, but it's actually a crucial skill for activists. Join DxE co-founder Wayne Hsiung for the last session in a six-part series on effective leadership. In this training you'll learn how to build great relationships — even with aliens! All are welcome, even if you didn't attend the previous sessions. Join via Zoom here: https://zoom.us/j/616283153 and Meeting ID: 616 283 153.
- Saturday, May 2nd, 11 AM: Meetup: Show & Tell Hangout - Join us this Saturday for a fun show and tell hangout! Sharing is totally optional. If you want to share, please have an item that is important to you personally ready and tell us the story behind it. If you don't want to share, feel free to join to talk to your friends and listen in. Our Saturday Morning Meetups are the place for the community to get together and connect. Right now during quarantine, this support and connection is more important than ever! To receive the Zoom call-in link, see instructions in the event page details.
- Sunday, May 3rd, 11:30 AM: May Chapter Meeting: DxE SF Bay Area - Help us shape the direction of the local DxE community. This is the most important meeting we hold each month and it is a place for discussion, strategic planning and decision making. All Chapter Members and Organizers in the DxE SF Bay Area Chapter are encouraged to attend. All chapter members are encouraged to contribute to the discussion. We will also hear updates on our other objectives and legal cases, discuss chapter members having increased voting rights, and have time for announcements and shoutouts. - Monday, May 4th, 3 PM: Self Care for Young Activists - Intended for young activists and activist families, this training will be a forum for young people to connect and learn self-care practices to help them stay strong activists for animals. Participants will leave with new friends & new activities they can do to keep their spirit lifted. This event is part of the Animal Liberation Online Assembly; you will receive information and instructions on how to join once you register for free at dxe.io/ALOA.
- Help Ban Dietary Racism (Call to action) - Help send a message to the US Dietary Guidelines Committee that dairy has no place on our plates as a food group for humans. If we get enough comments opposing the inclusion of dairy in dietary guidelines, there is a lot of pressure we can place on the committee. Use this link to submit a comment: http://bit.ly/2Qp1SU6. We have until June 1st to make comments!
