Dear MoveOn member,

Kamala Harris just announced that a Harris-Walz administration would work to set a federal price gouging ban for the grocery and the food industries within its first 100 days in 2025.1 THIS IS HUGE.

We've all seen prices go up for essential goods in grocery stores over the past few years, and let's be very clear: That's because of corporate greed, plain and simple.2 Corporate execs have taken advantage of working- and middle-class people, bumping up their own salaries and raising money for their shareholders, while workers received nothing. It doesn't help that Trump and his MAGA 2017 tax agenda have given tax cuts to the ultrawealthy across the country, while contributing to the rise in taxes and costs for the rest of us.3

But now, Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz want to put an end to those rising costs. Not only is this relevant for people today, it's historic. This would be the first-ever federal ban of price gouging on groceries—making it clear to all that big corporations cannot and will not exploit us any longer.4

Big corporations and greedy executives cannot and will not exploit us any longer. Food is not a want, but a necessity for every living person. Sign if you agree!

Corporate greed is soaring. It's become commonplace for these large corporations to increase the annual salaries of people at the top and skimp out when it comes to worker benefits and paying what they owe to the government in federal taxes. Tesla is just one example of exorbitant corporate greed in the past few years: From 2018-2022, Tesla raked in $4.4 billion in profits but paid no federal income taxes to contribute to society.5

That's unacceptable.

The cost of groceries is top of mind for working-class folks who are trying to get their necessities, and while food prices have gone down and inflation is improving, we have to continue to fight for lower costs.6 And that means instituting a federal price gouging ban that tackles the rising costs people are seeing in their day-to-day lives. While families face climbing food prices over the years, corporations rake in more profits, and workers see none of the benefits while doing all the labor.

The Biden-Harris administration has already started the critical and necessary work to fight back against corporate greed and tax wealthy CEOs and corporations what they owe, just like the rest of us.7 But it's clear this work needs to continue for working class and middle-class people to be able to rectify the damage corporate greed has done.

This also means continuing to build and support the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), to ensure the agency has the authority to pass rules and regulations that will benefit all of us, including regulating mergers and busting up corporate monopolies that drive up costs and make it harder for small businesses to stay afloat.

Sign the petition to support a Harris-Walz administration in fighting back against the price gouging that drives up the costs of goods and lines greedy CEOs' pockets! Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks for all you do.
