Anti-Israel protests have commenced in Chicago today, timed with the Democratic National Convention (DNC), with demonstrators actively disrupting events like a delegate party, signaling a week of extreme riots.
Protesters are threatening mainstream Democratic leaders over U.S. policy towards Gaza and have vowed to "bring the war home." Expect the wave of protests to intensify throughout the DNC, overshadowing the coronation of Kamala Harris's placement on the top of the Democratic presidential ticket.
Anti-Israel extremism has become antisemitism within the Democratic Party in North Carolina.
At their 2022 statewide convention, the North Carolina Democratic Party adopted resolutions harshly critical of Israel, sparking a backlash from Jewish leaders. These resolutions, which call for sanctions against Israel and conditions on U.S. aid, were condemned by the North Carolina Jewish Clergy Association for being unbalanced and potentially dangerous.
From their statement [ [link removed] ]:
“Sadly,  such party stances often lead to the  demonization of Jews and Israelis, ignore Israel's genuine security concerns, play upon age-old anti-Jewish stereotypes, and include language which implies that Israel should cease to exist as a sovereign state. Furthermore, given the troubling rise in direct acts of anti-semitism against many North Carolina synagogues,  we consider these resolutions to be potentially dangerous.
We do not believe that these resolutions further the chances for Middle East peace, and we know these resolutions do not reflect the diversity of views within the NC Democratic party.”
The NC Jewish leaders warned that such stances could fuel antisemitism and ignore Israel's security concerns. The North Carolina Coalition for Israel echoed these concerns, accusing the NC Democrats of perpetuating antisemitic stereotypes and calling for the resolutions to be rescinded.
This year, the  NC Democratic Party's executive committee voted against [ [link removed] ] recognizing the state’s Democratic Jewish Caucus, with 16 key members abstaining, including the state party chair Anderson Clayton. Jewish Caucus leaders called the rejection “a shocking defeat,” accusing the meeting of being "hijacked by the anti-Jewish left."
The decision, rooted in internal divisions over Israel following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack, has sparked harsh criticism. As crucial elections approach, many Jewish Democrats [ [link removed] ] see the party as being tainted with antisemitism.
After public pressure, the NC Democratic Party finally relented and allowed a Jewish Caucus to form.
Anti-Semitic rhetoric and actions from within the party's leadership should alarm every voter. This isn't just about political differences; it's about our state's moral compass.
The Case of Elyas Mohammed
The North Carolina Democratic Party has multiple leaders who hold and espouse anti-Jewish hostilities. Elyas Mohammed holds positions that influence policies and direction, not just as a member but as a critical leader.
Here's what you need to know:
Leadership Role: He's on the executive committee and chairs the Muslim Caucus, positions that give him significant sway over party affairs.
Anti-Semitic Rhetoric: Mohammed has been leading protests against Jewish communities in North Carolina, calling Jewish people "child killers." This is not just offensive; it is a direct incitement to hatred. This isn't just offensive; it's a direct incitement to hatred.
Blood Libel: He propagates blood libel conspiracies, an age-old anti-Semitic trope, which falsely accuses Jews of ritual murder. This kind of misinformation is not just historically inaccurate but dangerously inflammatory.
Exclusion of Jews: The NC Democratic Party's Faith Caucus, under Mohammed's influence, seems to systematically exclude Jewish representation, a clear sign of where the party’s priorities lie.
False Accusations Against Israel: Mohammed continuously accuses Israel of war crimes, a narrative that ignores the complexity of the region's conflicts, where Israel's actions are often in self-defense against terrorism.
This isn't just a Democratic Party issue; it's a national security and moral issue. The NC Democratic Party's direction under figures like Mohammed undermines this support, promoting a narrative that could lead to the isolation of Israel on the global stage.
Such rhetoric within a major political party in the U.S. signals a growing acceptance of anti-Semitism, a concern for all Americans, Democrats and Republicans alike.
For pro-Israel Republicans, this moment demands action:
Engagement: Engage with your representatives. Demand that they address these issues across the political spectrum.
Support Pro-Israel Candidates: In elections, support candidates who unequivocally stand against anti-Semitism and for Israel's right to exist and defend itself.
Unity: Work towards bipartisan efforts where possible. Anti-Semitism should not be a partisan issue but a human rights issue.
The presence of figures like Elyas Mohammed in influential positions within the NC Democratic Party is not just a threat to Jewish communities but to the values of freedom, security, and peace that America stands for. It's time for Republicans, especially those who support Israel, to stand firm, speak out, and act against this rising tide of anti-Semitism.
Let's ensure that our political landscape remains one where hate has no home.
