I’m headed to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention! I’m really proud to represent Vermont and to cast my vote to officially nominate Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

The momentum we’ve seen around this ticket just keeps building: fundraising records smashed, thousands of new voter registrations, and new volunteers showing up to make it all happen (which I saw firsthand on last week’s Vermonters for Harris Organizing call!). It's so heartening to see folks revved up to organize and each do their part to help us win in November.

But still, there are naysayers out there claiming she’s not electable because she’s a Black woman. Here’s what I have to say: Of course we can elect a Black woman. This moment is full of possibility and promise. Embrace it. Don’t give in to the cynical voices that are beholden to the worst of who we are.

How do I know these naysayers are wrong? Because every single woman in Congress – in fact, every single woman in elected office anywhere – was told they could not win at some point. I was told I would never get elected to Congress because I was gay, I was Jewish, and I was a woman. But here we all are!
