John, do you need a dose of hope and energy this weekend?
That’s exactly what I got when I watched EDF vice president Millie Chu Baird’s TED talk. In just seven minutes, she breaks down the methane problem AND how MethaneSAT is tackling the heart of the issue. Click here to learn how from her TED talk!
Millie’s specialty with EDF is leading innovative projects that produce actionable data to help solve environmental problems. When an opportunity came along to lead the team working on the most advanced methane-detecting satellite in space, Millie was on it.
The problem is methane is a speed demon! Its short-term effect is 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide. The more methane pollution we produce, the faster the temperature rises. It’s speeding us toward a very risky future of more intense floods, heat waves, storms and droughts.
That's why cutting methane is the single fastest way to slow the rate of global warming and reduce the frequency and intensity of extreme weather we’re experiencing now.
With MethaneSAT in space and the power of people on Earth, we can pinpoint sources of methane pollution with unprecedented precision and then use that data to plug leaks and slow the rate of warming in the next decade.
To learn more about the vision and impact of MethaneSAT, take a few minutes to check out Millie Chu Baird’s TED talk.
