Dear Friend,

The Alzheimer's Association International Conference® 2024
(AAIC®) was, as always, a reinvigorating time and a reflection of
how far we've come in Alzheimer's disease and dementia research. The
conference is just one way the Alzheimer's Association is working
tirelessly to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia. I want to thank
you for your part in making this year's conference a success, and for
all you do to support our work in accelerating global research, as
well as advancing early detection and providing care and support.

There were several key findings at this year's conference,
encompassing everything from prevention and risk reduction to
advancements in early detection and diagnosis and potential new
treatment avenues. Throughout the week, scientists presented research
that may make a difference in the lives of those impacted by
Alzheimer's and all types of dementia. We learned about:

* A study of 1.2 million Californians which showed an increased
risk of dementia after exposure to wildfire smoke. Another
43-year study of 130,000 people showed that

eating about two servings of processed red meat a week increased
the risk of dementia by 14%, and that swapping a serving of
processed red meat for a serving of nuts, beans or tofu may
lower the risk of dementia by 20%.

* Blood tests that accurately and reliably detect Alzheimer's
hallmark brain changes may soon signal a shift to simpler,
less-expensive and less-invasive detection and diagnosis, and
support volunteer recruitment for treatment trials.

* GLP-1 agonists - one class of drugs prescribed to treat
diabetes and weight loss - may also protect the brain. A
study testing liraglutide in people living with mild Alzheimer's
appeared to reduce shrinking by nearly 50% in parts of the brain
that affect memory, learning, language and decision-making, when
compared to a placebo.

The progress and breakthroughs we have
made are all thanks to our supporters. Through the generosity of our
supporters, we are able to provide the nearly 7 million Americans
living with Alzheimer's and their over 11 million caregivers access to
care and support services and accelerate critical research to improve
methods for treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.

Though we have made progress, our work
is far from done. We won't rest until everyone living with dementia of
any kind - at any stage - can get the treatment, care and
support they need and deserve. I truly believe that the global
collaboration demonstrated at AAIC will result in even more research
discoveries. But it's only with your support that can we deliver on
the promise of what we learn at AAIC.

Thank you for supporting our mission to lead the way to end
Alzheimer's and all other dementia - by accelerating global
research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing
quality care and support.

Sincerely,

Maria C. Carrillo, Ph.D.
