According to the nonprofit, this redistribution of food, much of which

What Leaders Can Learn from Training Like an Olympic Archer - Harvard
Business Review (No paywall) [[link removed]}&lead=419599&emailid=51114&nl=daily]
[[link removed]}&lead=419599&emailid=51114&nl=daily]
The discipline of archery, with training that emphasizes purposeful
practice, mindful focus, mental toughness, and adaptability, offers
useful lessons for business leaders. Just as archers break the skill
of using a bow and arrow to hit a target from distance into component
parts, such as stance or aim, executives can break the task of
“becoming a better leader” into specific, actionable, and
manageable steps. Just as archers are taught to concentrate intensely
and channel all their energy into the perfect shot through rigorous
mental training, including meditation and self-talk, businesspeople
can use similar techniques to develop transformative focus. Just as
archers practice visualization and cognitive reframing to manage
stress and maintain composure in challenging situations, leaders can
also use scenario planning and self-talk to become more resilient.
Finally, just as archers to develop their ability to adapt to varying
conditions—wind, light, and even their physical and mental state on
a given moment or day—executives can try similar exercises to better
prepare for the unexpected.

For decades, his voice was omnipresent in Latino households. Two
million people tuned in to Univision every night to watch the man with
silver hair and pale-green eyes deliver the headlines in a clear,
level tone. If war broke out in Latin America or a leader was deposed,
if inflation soared in the United States or deportations went up, he
would be on the story. The news, he’d say, needed to go out on time
or it would rot. Poll after poll ranked him among the most influential
Latinos in the United States; during his thirty-eight years as an
anchor at Univision, the network’s standing came to rival that of
the Catholic Church. He drew comparisons to both the avuncular
American broadcaster Walter Cronkite and the combative Italian
reporter Oriana Fallaci, but his audience saw him most importantly as
a fellow-immigrant—someone who, like them, was working to decode the
mores of his adopted home. He embodied the power of a community that,
in four decades, has grown from fifteen million people to more than
sixty million. He believed firmly in Cesar Chavez’s prediction, from
1984: “We’ve looked into the future, and the future is ours.”
