Demanding Secretary Blinken Answer for my Afghanistan Investigation's Findings Three years after the Biden-Harris administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, the country continues to suffer under the iron fist of the terrorist Taliban regime. By choosing an arbitrary withdrawal date and making no effort to ensure the Taliban upheld the Doha Agreement’s conditions—such as protecting women’s rights—the Biden administration emboldened the Taliban and allowed the country to become a terrorist safe haven. The administration must take accountability for those it abandoned in Afghanistan and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice getting Americans and our allies to safety — including the 13 heroic U.S. servicemembers who were killed in the Abbey Gate bombing. That's exactly what I am pursuing through my committee's investigation into the botched withdrawal. Next month, I will release an expansive report on our findings, which have been uncovered through transcribed interviews, public hearings, document productions obtained under threat of subpoena, whistleblowers, and more. Once the report is released, it's my expectation that Secretary of State Antony Blinken come testify before the committee on our report's findings — as I have demanded of him since May. This week, I sent him a formal letter reiterating that expectation. So far, my committee has successfully negotiated testimony from several senior administration officials, including former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley and former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, and 16 current or former State Department and Defense Department officials. The time is now ripe for Secretary Blinken to testify and answer for the findings in our report. It’s what our Gold Star families — and the American people — deserve. If he does not come in willingly, he will be subpoenaed. Click here to read more. McCaul Confronts Secretary Blinken at a Committee Hearing Holding the State Department Responsible for Misuse of Americans' Tax Dollars The U.S. State Department is tasked with advancing America’s interests abroad — a crucial responsibility. Yet the Biden administration’s State Department issued a $500,000 grant to Humanists International, a group working to promote atheism overseas. This is an extreme departure from the State Department’s mission, a potential violation of the Establishment Clause of our Constitution, and an unacceptable use of taxpayer funds. As chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I've been demanding answers from the State Department on this grant for over a year. Rather than comply with my repeated requests for documents relating to the grant, the department has instead engaged in a pattern of obfuscation and denial. This week, I served a subpoena to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, demanding he turn over these documents by September 4, 2024. I'm determined to get the answers Americans deserve. Texas Instruments — a company with almost a century of history in the Lone Star State — has been a key player in executing that vision by shoring up U.S. production of legacy chips, the brains behind everything from your washing machine to America’s fighter jets. This week, the Department of Commerce announced a $1.6 billion grant for Texas Instruments, made possible through my bill. The funds will be met with nearly $20 billion of private investment, much of which will go toward expanding Texas Instrument's semiconductor manufacturing operations in Sherman, Texas. This historic investment will create thousands of well-paying jobs for Texans, reduce America’s dependence on other nations for critical supply chains, and continue to cement Texas’ leadership in this crucial technology sector.
