Hi there,
We just marked the 12th anniversary of the first day of DACA.
Since then, hundreds of thousands of immigrant youth have benefitted from the program by their ability to work, go to school, and live free from the fear of deportation.
But in the 12 years since that day, DACA has been through attack after attack from Republicans and anti-immigrant forces. Just last week, a group of 15 conservative attorneys general filed a lawsuit to deny vital ACA healthcare coverage to DACA recipients.
DACA was always meant to be a band-aid solution. 12 years have passed since DACA’s first day, and we’re still waiting on permanent protections.
Permanent protections would mean undocumented youth would no longer be in constant fear of deportation. A pathway to citizenship for ALL undocumented people is the only true solution.
The anniversary of DACA’s first applications is a reminder of the power our community has to win real change. Activists and allies fought relentlessly to win DACA, and we’ll need to come together again to defend DACA — and win permanent protections.
