Fellow Conservative,

There are three weeks left before Congress returns to Washington, D.C. on September 9th. You still have time to reach out to them directly while they are in their home districts and let them know what issues you care most about.

Here are some things you can do:

  1. Watch for town halls or events where your member is speaking! Subscribing to their congressional newsletter and watching local group meeting announcements can tip you off to where they will be visiting in the district.
  2. Schedule a meeting with your member. While their calendars are quickly filling up, you can reach out to your member’s office and ask for a meeting—arrange for a few Sentinels to go with you, and meet as a group! Here are some Tips for Visiting Your Member of Congress’ Office.
  3. Get to know their staff. Congressional staff often travel to the district with their boss during August. Key relationships with staff can be just as effective at making sure your message is heard by your member of Congress. Here is a guide to Your Member of Congress’ Staff. Be sure to ask for their business card!

In-person meetings and interactions with your member of Congress can leave a lasting impression. Take the time to reach out!

Last night, the Supreme Court issued a 5-4 opinion that blocked the Biden-Harris Administration’s Title IX rule change that would have forced schools receiving federal funding to allow men who claim to be women into women’s bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams.

When the rule was first proposed you, the grassroots, engaged immediately by submitting over 15,440 public comments in opposition. The rule change was ultimately challenged in court and the portion of the Title IX rule changes that redefined sex and endangered women has now been blocked!

This is a huge procedural victory and lays the groundwork for the rule to be undone completely.

This is evidence that your work really can move the needle. Thank you for your tremendous efforts.

When Congress returns in September, lawmakers should pass a short-term Continuing Resolution (CR) to meet the funding deadline and extend government funding into the first quarter of the new year. While it’s disappointing Congress has again failed to fund the government through regular order, time is running out, and passing a CR now will block a bloated lame-duck omnibus and give the next administration an opportunity to set spending and policy priorities.

But attached to this CR should be the Safeguard America Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. By amending the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), the SAVE Act would end enforcement loopholes that allow non-citizens to vote in federal elections.

The Monday after Heritage Action announced our position in support of a CR with the SAVE Act attached, the House Freedom Caucus announced their support for the same strategy.

We are happy to see this gaining traction on the Hill. This would not be possible without the support of the grassroots and we look forward to continuing to hold Congress accountable to do the right thing.

Think the “green” energy movement won’t affect you? Think again. From rising utility bills to power outages to your gas stove, the radical environmentalists are coming for your affordable, reliable energy.

In an attempt to “save the planet” from rising temperatures (a veneer for political pandering and corporate handouts) the Left has promised to transition the country off of fossil fuels and onto a 100% renewable energy system.

Not only would this decimate the economy, it wouldn’t put a dent in global temperatures. If the United States completely eliminated CO2 emissions by tomorrow (which is impossible), the global temperature would only decrease by only 0.23 degrees Celsius by the year 2100.

Maximum pain for no gain. See the calculations HERE

Under the Biden-Harris administration, their anti-energy campaign has taken a variety of forms including a recent regulation to squeeze gas stoves and other popular appliances out of the market.

By introducing new energy “efficiency standards,” the administration hopes to make gas stoves so expensive to produce and purchase that they fall out of use.

Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic nominee for president, has given us every reason to believe that she will continue on this ridiculous path.

Harris is a vocal supporter and was an early cosponsor of the Green New Deal, a drastic proposal that calls for taxpayers to spend $5 trillion to eliminate coal, nuclear, and natural gas in exchange for “green” energy like solar or wind.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the soon-to-be Democratic nominee for vice president, has joined Harris in support of the Green New Deal and other extreme proposals, like banning fracking which would gut thousands of jobs in states like Pennsylvania and Ohio.

All of this will make energy less affordable, less reliable, less responsive to emergency increases in demand (such as in an extreme weather event), and less storable. This will affect everything from home appliances, to vehicles, to inflation. Protecting affordable and reliable energy is about protecting livelihoods.

While Washington drives energy supply down and utility prices up, states should do the opposite by passing the Affordable and Reliable Electricity Act. This bill would prioritize affordable and reliable energy over inefficient alternative energy sources.

It’s clear that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s plans to implement these Green New Deal policies will only make energy even more unaffordable.

Heritage Action’s Executive Vice President, Ryan Walker and experts from The Heritage Foundation called out Vice President Kamala Harris’s plan to federally control food and grocery prices—an idea famously used by communist authoritarians like Joseph Stalin.

Harris claims that the rising prices in food is due to corporate greed and price gouging, and not by the inflation caused by excessive federal spending—or the increase in energy costs caused by her “green” energy push.

But, as Ryan points out, the grocery industry has seen a decrease in profit margins, not an increase.

The Heritage Foundation’s Richard Stern explained that "Actual consumer prices have been going up less than producer prices, which means that businesses, if anything, are price gouging themselves." EJ Antoni, also of The Heritage Foundation, pointed out that price controls “always end with the same disastrous effect, which is shortages.”
