Our Supports Will Cost More and Won't Meet Our Needs
Concerns were raised about the possibility of increased costs resulting from the new legislation. The changes could lead to a reliance on more expensive services, such as support workers for tasks that could be done more affordably by other service providers. This could make the NDIS less cost-effective and lead to worse outcomes for participants.
The Need for Flexibility and Exemptions Forum participants emphasised the need for the NDIS to be flexible and to include exemptions for individuals with unique or complex circumstances. A one-size-fits-all approach was seen as harmful.
The Need for Advocacy The forum resulted in a strong call to action from our community for strong advocacy to address these concerns. There was a strong desire to keep the pressure on decision makers to ensure that the voices of people with disabilities are heard and that the legislation reflects their needs.
Our community was promised greater flexibility by the NDIS Review but these lists will make it harder to get the support we need to suit our individual needs and circumstances.
