Hi it’s Gary Peters.
I’m a fifth generation Michigander, former U.S. Navy Reservist, U.S Senator, and fighter for Michigan families — and I’m asking you to join me in supporting Elissa Slotkin for U.S. Senate.
As a Senator representing Michigan, and the chair of the DSCC – the body tasked with keeping our razor-thin Democratic Senate majority – I think I’m pretty qualified to say why she should join me in the Senate next year.
Elissa is Pure Michigan. It’s where both her family and mine found our versions of the American dream, and her love for this place and its people drives everything she does.
Elissa and I also share a commitment to service. After 9/11, Elissa was recruited by the CIA and served 3 tours in Iraq alongside the military. A national security expert, she went on to work in the White House and the Pentagon. 9/11 was also a call to service for me — following the attacks, I volunteered again for drilling status and served overseas as part of my Navy Reserve duty.
And most importantly, I know that Elissa will be a fighter for Michigan’s working families in the Senate. I learned it from my mom, a nurse’s aide who organized her workplace with the SEIU and became a union steward. Elissa’s “why” also comes from her mom. As her mom was battling Stage IV ovarian cancer, Elissa went toe to toe with the insurance companies after years of price gouging because of her pre-existing condition.
Elissa will be the leader that Michiganders deserve, and I’ll be proud to serve alongside her in the Senate.
But in an election year where control of the Senate is on the line and a presidential at the top of the ticket, she has a tough fight ahead of her. And mark my words when I tell you that if Elissa does not win here in Michigan, Republicans will almost certainly take control of the U.S. Senate.
So I’m asking you today: will you chip in to Elissa’s campaign and help keep both of Michigan’s Senate seats blue?
