Official Team Britt Newsletter | | | Sen. Britt secures millions in funding for Port of Mobile projects | U.S. Senator Katie Britt is working hard to make sure that the Port of Mobile is both a vital economic artery for the region and a place of protection for its natural resources.
Over the past year to achieve the goal, she has been working in conjunction with the Alabama Port Authority and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to secure additional beneficial use opportunities to help to deepen and widen the Port of Mobile’s ship channel and also conduct ongoing ship channel maintenance.
To that end, Britt has announced three major projects, satisfying both economic and conservatory interests. The projects include an additional $47 million for USACE operations and maintenance of the Mobile Ship Channel, funding for a federal study to analyze sediment flows to ensure that dredge material is used beneficially, and language in the 2024 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) to ensure beneficial use of dredge material to protect Alabama’s natural resources. | | | Sens. Britt, Kaine push for bipartisan solutions to child care crisis | In a recent op-ed published by Fox News, U.S. Senators Katie Britt, R-Ala., and Tim Kaine, D-Va., laid out their bold, bipartisan proposal aimed at tackling the growing child care crisis that is plaguing families across America, particularly in their home states of Alabama and Virginia.
The Senators emphasize the urgent need for solutions, citing that more than half of American families reside in “child care deserts,” where the lack of available care forces parents onto long waitlists and leaves them grappling with the high costs once a spot is secured. “The national average price of child care was $11,582 in 2023,” the Senators write, highlighting that in Virginia, “families pay some of the highest costs of child care in the country,” with expenses for center-based infant care exceeding $15,000 annually. | | | Britt secures $700K for D.W. McMillan Hospital | D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital received word of a $700,000 gift this week thanks to U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) Britt, as a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, locked in $700,000 for D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Escambia County in the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.
The funds would aid the hospital in purchasing needed medical equipment. Stacy Hines, administrator at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital, expressed her thanks for the welcome financial gift. “We are very thankful for Senator Katie Britt working to secure much needed financial support through the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.
The funding for D W McMillan Memorial Hospital will help offset capital expenses related to the medical equipment in our hospital and clinics,” Hines said. “We are fortunate that Senator Britt continues to advocate for rural healthcare and the ongoing needs in communities like ours in Escambia County.” | | | | Alabama values.
