Continue reading this week’s edition to learn more about a bill I helped introduce targeting fentanyl precursors, wildfire preparedness resources, and more! | INTRODUCING BIPARTISAN LEGISLATION TO DESTROY FENTANYL PRECURSORS AT BORDER CROSSINGS I recently joined a bipartisan group of my colleagues to introduce the Destruction Initiative for Stored Precursors Overseas and Safe Enforcement (DISPOSE) Act. This bipartisan, bicameral legislation would create fentanyl and precursor chemical destruction facilities at three critical drug trafficking choke points in Mexico, Colombia, and Peru. To get fentanyl off our streets and out of our communities, we must target the sources of illicit drugs. By improving coordination with partner countries to destroy precursor chemicals, this legislation can help save lives. Specifically, our bill would create a Precursor Chemical Destruction Initiative that would increase the rate of seizure and destruction of listed chemicals to ensure these substances are not reintroduced into the illicit drug production network. Learn more by visiting my website: | While we're on the topic of fentanyl, I want to thank Portland police, and all those involved in the multi-agency drug task force, for your collaboration and continued efforts to get dangerous and deadly narcotics off our streets -- recently seizing the most drugs in the bureau's history. Oregon is still in the middle of an unprecedented drug crisis, and we need to support law enforcement and allow them to do their jobs to keep our communities safe. | WILDFIRE SAFETY TIPS Throughout this tragically busy wildfire season, I will continue partnering with private, local, state, and federal agencies to ensure all of our firefighters are supported – and to ensure impacted communities have the resources they need to rebuild and recover. As we continue to monitor the threat of fires across Oregon, including in the 5th District, click on the graphic below for a quick guide with resources and tips to ensure you and your family are wildfire-ready. | ICYMI: MY VISIT TO CROSSROADS COMMUNITIES I appreciated being invited to visit Crossroads Communities, which recently expanded to help house more veterans and people confronting substance abuse and behavioral health disorders. By partnering with up to 20 local services throughout Linn County, Crossroads takes a unique approach by offering support services like counseling, job training, and more.
