Kamala riding wave of enthusiasm from brat summer to demure fall
Kamala Harris. Sheâs very demure! She doesnât look like a clown when she goes to work, sheâs very mindful. A lot of you girls go to presidential debates looking like Beavis and pick a running mate that looks like Butthead. Not demure!
New Data for Progress polling finds that voters appreciate a candidate who is demure, mindful, and just not weird and creepy as hell. From the beginning of the year to Bidenâs exit, Harris was viewed favorably by an average of 41% of voters and unfavorably by an average of 54%. Since July 21, her average favorability rating has become net-positive, with 50% viewing her favorably and 48% viewing her unfavorably.
This includes a +11-point increase in average favorability among Democrats and a +15-point increase among Independents who don't lean toward either party.
Â
Itâs been a great August for Hotties for Kamala Harris. Weâve been tanning by the pool, unburdened by what has been, drinking pina coladas, and getting excited to throw out fascism in November.
Voter enthusiasm among Democrats has surged since Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee: prior to Biden's exit, 41% of Democratic voters said they were more excited about voting in 2024 than usual, compared to an average of 61% today.
And unsurprisingly, voters think Tim Walz is a more effective vice presidential pick than JD Vance by a +8-point margin. Weâd send our condolences to Vance, but heâs too busy making weird comments about women again.Â

An Olympic gold medal for a popular progressive agenda
In between hanging out with Theo Von and hosting âBasketball with Bernieâ events in Vermont, Senator Sanders took time out of his regular schedule this month to collaborate with Data for Progress on a new poll.
Check out what Bernie had to say about the findings ⤾ď¸
One of the key findings of the poll is that, on core economic issues, by a wide margin, voters are more likely to vote for a candidate who favors expanding social security benefits by making the wealthy pay the same tax rate as the working class. They strongly support a candidate who favors expanding Medicare to cover vision, dental and hearing needs, who favors cutting the cost of prescription drugs in half by making sure that Americans pay no more than what they pay in Europe or Canada, and who favors hiking taxes on the rich and multinational corporations so that they pay their fair share.
In other words: campaigning on an economic agenda that speaks to the needs of working families is a winning formula for Kamala Harris and Democrats in November. Indeed, it is the formula that could give Harris the sort of victory that sweeps in a Democratic Senate and House and allows her to govern in the best tradition of Franklin Rooseveltâs New Deal and Joe Bidenâs Build Back Better program.
I donât usually say that candidates should pay attention to the polls. But, in this instance, Democrats should do just that.

If Lina Khan has a million fans I am one of themâŚ
Under the Biden administration, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), led by Chair Lina Khan, has implemented an aggressive strategy on antitrust enforcement in an effort to protect consumers and rein in some of the nationâs largest corporations, especially Big Tech and Big Pharma. New Data for Progress polling finds that many of these recent actions by the FTC are widely popular among likely voters across party lines.Â
Â
In recent days, the FTC has made strides in finalizing a âclick to cancelâ rule, requiring companies to allow for easy cancellation of subscriptions. This proposal is overwhelmingly popular across party lines â supported by 83% of voters, including 85% of Democrats, 86% of Independents, and 80% of Republicans.
Now if Lina Khan actually allows us to cancel our gym memberships without needing to come up with an insane story to give Planet Fitness (weâve heard that saying youâve been sent to prison for storming the Capitol works), she probably deserves the Medal of Freedom.
