# NEW RESEARCH

# In the current anti-LGBTQ climate, the mental health of adult children of lesbian parents no different than their peers

([link removed])

The latest report from the
National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study ([link removed])
collected data in 2021-2022 to examine the psychological health and social well-being of adult children with lesbian parents at a time when many states were enacting laws aimed at limiting rights for LGBTQ people. Researchers compared the mental health of these offspring with participants who have similar demographics from a nationally representative sample, including sexual orientation and gender identity.

The results show no significant differences in the levels of current or anticipated life satisfaction and psychological distress between the NLLFS offspring and the matched participants. Additionally, there were no significant differences in how both groups evaluated their position in society or the frequency of victimization they experienced.

For the NLLFS offspring, participants who identified as sexual minorities reported lower levels of current or anticipated life satisfaction compared to those who identified as heterosexual.
