What does the word “humanitarian” mean to you, John?

To us, it refers to someone who cares about the well-being of others – and is determined to do what they can to make our world a better place for everyone.

Save the Children wouldn’t exist without humanitarians like you, John. Ahead of World Humanitarian Day on Monday, we're saying thank you.

It’s hard to quantify the incredible impact of your generosity, but here are just a few examples:

You’re helping us support children at 50 locations throughout Gaza. Together, we’re providing health care, food, clean water, hygiene kits, education and child protection services. We continue to call for an immediate ceasefire as well as the release of all hostages to allow our teams to scale up their humanitarian response efforts.

When families desperately need food, shelter, medicine or other basic necessities, cash assistance helps strengthen social safety nets, stimulate the economy and protect children in the Solomon Islands and worldwide. In the last year, you’ve helped provide over $165 million in cash and voucher assistance worldwide.

With your support, we’ve provided humanitarian aid and essential services to over 1 million people across Ukraine, Poland, Romania and Lithuania since the war in Ukraine began. This includes learning support so kids can continue their education and mental health services to help them begin to recover from the trauma they’ve experienced.

By the end of 2024, nearly 300 million people worldwide – or 1 in 27 – will require humanitarian assistance.

They’re in places like Gaza, Sudan and Haiti facing life-threatening violence, hunger, poverty and the worsening impacts of the climate crisis.

With your support, we won’t rest until every child is able to grow up healthy, learning and safe.

In honor of World Humanitarian Day on August 19, we’ll be launching a special campaign to raise $20,000 for children facing hardships around the world. Will you please make a generous donation before then to support this vital humanitarian work and help millions of children grow up healthy, learning and safe?
