Dear John,
This week I had the pleasure of seeing so many folks from across our district, from seniors in La Palma for my Senior Resource Fair, to police officers at the Westminster Police Department, to business leaders at the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce. It's always a joy to speak with so many friends and neighbors in our community and learn how I can better serve CA-45 in Congress.
I also received a message from one constituent whom my office was able to assist in navigating a federal agency. Read below for more information if you need help with a federal agency.
Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my Facebook, Instagram, and X to get these updates in real-time.

Meeting Seniors at the Senior Resource Fair
This week, I hosted a resource fair for our seniors at the La Palma Community Center. I had the opportunity to meet so many seniors and speak with them about their lives and the resources available to them. Senior citizens are among the most beloved members of our communities, and federal resources can be essential to supporting their health and well-being. In Congress, I'm working to support these resources, like protecting Social Security and Medicare and improving agencies like the VA.

Supporting Fountain Valley's Accessible Playground
Last week, I joined community leaders in Fountain Valley for the ribbon cutting of the city's first Universally Accessible Playground. Where traditional playgrounds may be inaccessible for children with physical or developmental disabilities, this new facility at the Fountain Valley Sports Park offers equipment and play for children of all ages and abilities. I am so proud to have supported this project with federal funding I secured in Congress and see this vision come to life. I am also grateful for the partnership of Fountain Valley’s local officials in bringing this project to my attention. The playground will be an amazing space for children of all abilities in this community to come together and play.

Empowering Small Businesses
Small businesses are the cornerstone of our economy in Southern California and in the United States. I joined the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce to discuss the needs of small businesses in our community and what my colleges and I in Congress can do to promote small, community businesses and safeguard them from excessive taxes and regulations.
Commonsense tax cuts in Washington and Sacramento are critical for small businesses to thrive and grow. While the tax climate in Gavin Newsom’s California is very anti-business, I am doing all I can on the federal level to support job creators. This is why as a member of the Ways and Means Committee, I'm working to extend tax cuts for small businesses and boost our economy.

Supporting the Westminster Police
As crime continues to increase in Southern California, boosting public safety resources is critical to protecting our families. As a result, I'm thrilled to have secured federal funding in Congress for the Westminster Police Department for their new data backup center. This new center will allow the WPD to better protect city information and data collected from 911 calls from cyber threats, enhancing law enforcement operations and 911 communications throughout the city.

Discussing AI in Garden Grove
On Tuesday, I hosted community technology leaders from across the 45th Congressional District to discuss the growing use and capabilities of AI. This technology is already so present in our everyday lives and is having a great impact on the economy, innovation, and information sharing.
As a member of the AI task force in Congress, I know that it's crucial that we continue to learn about this technology so we can use it to its full capability to enhance our lives. At the roundtable, we discussed federal policies that can help drive this exciting and important source of innovation. After listening to these local experts, I will take their input back to Congress to help shape future policies related to AI.

Constituent Services Highlight
As your U.S. Representative, I’m committed to helping you navigate various issues with federal agencies. My office can help expediate a passport, navigate the VA, obtain a federal tax return, and more. I recently heard from one couple, Faheem and Faiza from Artesia, about an issue my office was able to successfully resolve with their visas.

Judge orders UCLA to ensure equal campus access to Jewish students after pro-Palestinian protests
"In issuing his preliminary injunction, U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarsi sided with the students, whose June suit said the university helped to enforce a “Jew Exclusion Zone” on campus during pro-Palestinian protests when UCLA erected bike rack barriers around an encampment. Also, the suit alleged that UCLA hired security guards who allowed protesters to cross into the encampment, but not Jewish students."

As Vietnam tightens leash on criticism, scores are jailed and exiled
"To court Vietnam, the Biden administration has not made Hanoi’s repression of civil society a priority during high-level diplomatic meetings or conditioned new agreements on an improvement of human rights, said three former State Department officials who worked on ties with Vietnam. In June, the United States upgraded Vietnam’s ranking in the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report despite opposition from rights groups, which said Vietnam had been covering up trafficking cases."
