Dear John,
Yesterday I had my 68th town hall since taking office. I love hearing from constituents and answering your questions about the work I’m doing in Congress.
This month, I was joined by Whitney Place, State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency. I got to spend time talking with her about our work to ensure protections, safety, and fairness for farmers all across Minnesota.
As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, it is my responsibility to elevate the voices of Minnesota family farmers. I have seized opportunities to host and be a part of listening sessions with my Republican colleagues on the Agriculture Committee, so they can hear firsthand from Minnesota farmers exactly what’s working and what needs fixing.
And during my town hall, we talked about how important it is that both parties work together to pass a Farm Bill that helps Minnesota family farmers and rural communities.
Another thing we talked about during my town hall is the urgent need to repeal federal taxes on Social Security benefits – and I wrote the bill to do it. I view this as double taxation, plain and simple, and that’s wrong. My bill would repeal federal taxes on Social Security and reduce the federal debt by nearly $9 trillion.
This idea has support on both sides of the aisle and I’m urging Speaker Johnson to bring my bill to a vote.
Thank you to everyone who joined my town hall this week and for your thoughtful questions.
Here’s what else I was up to this week:
SKOL!
I got to visit the Vikings Training Camp in Eagan on Monday to get a sneak peak at the team getting ready for the season. Looking forward to a winning season! #SKOL
Supporting future leaders
On Wednesday I met with an incredible group of Girl Scouts from Prior Lake to talk about my experiences as a Member of Congress and help them get their Democracy Badges. Always great to support young women interested in leadership!
Strengthening local partnerships
Great to meet with Prior Lake Mayor Kirt Briggs and Jordan Mayor Mike Franklin in Prior Lake this week to get an update on their cities and discuss how we can continue to work together to make Scott County a better place to live and work.
Behind the Scenes with Rep. Craig
My summer interns and I got to chat about all of the great work they are doing for their communities and what they have learned from their experience working in government this summer.
Thank you so much for your hard work this summer, and I can’t wait to see all the great things you’ll accomplish in the future!
That’s about all I’ve got for this week – hope you all enjoy the weekend!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
