Dear John,
Threats to earned benefits haven’t taken the summer off. In fact, Social Security and Medicare remain the target of hardliners in Congress and on the campaign trail who are determined to balance the budget on the backs of seniors.
This summer, we need to take a firm stand for Social Security and Medicare — benefits that over a lifetime are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to you and your family. Specifically, I need you to remind your congressional lawmakers that slashing earned benefits to pay down the national debt or fund massive tax breaks for the very wealthy and huge corporations is NOT a plan you support.
That’s why I urge you to sign our Petition to Congress today, telling your members of Congress to protect — not cut — Social Security and Medicare, and the vital services these programs provide to millions of Americans and their families. When your lawmakers return from summer recess, we want to ensure they see that large numbers of their constituents have signed onto this petition. The more petitions in their inbox, the more seriously they will take this issue!
We need to be certain that Congress hears from people like you, who have paid into and are counting on their earned benefits in retirement — and not the politicians who falsely claim Social Security and Medicare are the reason for today’s soaring budget deficits!
As we devote critical resources to advancing our priority agenda for Social Security and Medicare, we cannot ignore ongoing efforts by powerful fiscal hawks in Congress to reduce your earned benefits by radically changing these programs. So please sign our Emergency Petition to Congress right now — and officially go on the record with your elected representatives that you reject harmful cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
We’re aiming for at least 50,000 signatures to make lawmakers sit up and take notice. This summer, as the presidential election season kicks into high gear, we cannot afford to be complacent!
