New Sneakers & School Supplies for Stanton Elementary Students

Councilmember Trayon White shared in the fun and giving with Stanton Elementary School which partnered with Capital City Church to donate school supplies and new sneakers to Stanton Elementary students and the Ward 8 community. Stanton Elementary also offered free health screenings, food, and entertained over 600 families.

Street Renaming Ceremony Honoring Cassandra S. Pinkney -- Founder of Eagle Academy Public Charter School in Ward 8

Councilmember Trayon White, along with Cassandra S. Pinkney’s family, Friendship PCS, Eagle Academy PCS members, and other stakeholders, proudly participated in a street renaming ceremony in Mother Pinkney’s honor.
In 2003, Cassandra S. Pinkney, in partnership with Dr. Joe Smith, founded Eagle Academy, the first public charter school in DC dedicated exclusively to early childhood education. Her unwavering commitment to providing high-quality programs for low-income students is deeply embedded in the legacy of Eagle Academy.
A true advocate for children, Cassandra’s work in academia was centered on ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, had access to excellent education.
This street renaming marks the beginning of honoring her legacy and the ongoing commitment to helping every child reach new heights.

Resources to the Block – Back to School Edition in Congress Park

Councilmember Trayon White and his team hosted the "Resources to the Block – Back to School Edition" in Congress Park. We would like to thank our amazing partners, including @naarcdc, @farsecollab, community partners Hot Dog and @mpricebey, and all the incredible vendors who contributed to making this summer activation event a success.
The day was filled with excitement, featuring great food, music, snow cones to cool off, and a fun water fight. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, who distributed book bags and school supplies to the scholars preparing to return to school this month.
The next event is the annual back-to-school event on August 24th — more details will be shared for Ward 8 residents to attend. Stay tuned.

Math Matters Summer Program

Councilmember Trayon White met with DCPS middle school students who proudly showcased their talents at the GW Math Matters Summer Program — "Math Matters in the Garden." It was inspiring to witness college students making a real impact by helping our students bridge the achievement gap in math.

Back to School Event with NAARC- Cure the Streets
August 10, 2024
Our Constituent Services team hproudly supported NAARC- Cure the Streets Family Fun Day and Backpack Giveaway. The event was vibrant and family-friendly, featuring a water slide, food, a game truck, and more. Martha’s Table, along with other community organizations, provided valuable resources at their tables. The community came together, enjoyed a delicious meal, and had a fantastic time.

Black Greek Fest at Sycamore & Oak

The Constituent Services team had the pleasure of attending the vibrant "Black Greek Fest" at Sycamore and Oak. The event was an incredible celebration, bringing together HBCU fraternities and sororities for a unified display of Black excellence in Southeast Washington, DC. Hosted by 93.9 WKYS’s Dominique “Da Diva” and Markie Mark, the festival was filled with energy, music, and joy. Attendees danced, sang, and reveled in the spirit of community at the first-ever "Black Greek Fest" in Southeast. It was truly an unforgettable experience.

Nationals Night Out at Sycamore & Oak
August 6, 2024
Our Constituent Services team had the chance to enjoy themselves at "National Night Out" with MPD at Sycamore and Oak on St. Elizabeths campus.
Hosted by Commander Lashy Makal and the 7th District Police Department, the community could see our police agencies in a different light. National Night Out allowed residents in Ward Eight to come out and fellowship with all other types of law enforcement agencies, including the Office of the Attorney General.
WPGC's host Poet and DJ Flexx were in attendance, along with local political figures, DC government agency Directors, and plenty more. Chief Pamela A Smith gave opening remarks, promising to continue to improve as a unit within the police department. Special Thanks to the "Side by Side Band" Who always puts on a great show for the community.
