Emergency Update: A severe mpox outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo has dramatically worsened due to the emergence of a more transmissible strain. Since January, over 14,000 suspected cases and 511 deaths have been reported. This surge is impacting 23 of the country's 26 provinces, including camps for displaced people. The population density of these camps has created an even greater risk for transmission and spread. MSF continues to focus on providing critical care—as well as laboratory analysis, support for isolation, and more—while also adapting our response to meet this evolving crisis by training staff and conducting educational awareness campaigns in affected areas.
