Gear up for a successful start to the school year with these safety reminders from the Oswego Police Department.
- It is illegal to pass a school bus with its stop sign arm out and red lights flashing that is stopped to pick up or discharge riders. Drivers should remain stopped until the arm is retracted & flashing lights are off, or if the driver signals them to proceed.
- All school buses stop at train tracks, do NOT pass buses on railroad crossings from behind.
- The speed limit in all school zones when children are present is 20 MPH.
- Keep an eye out for pedestrians, especially near schools and crosswalks.
- Do not park in posted "no parking" areas or otherwise block the streets around schools.
Extra enforcement will be conducted in all school zones, especially during the first few weeks of school. As always, if you see something, say something, and please drive carefully. Thank you for keeping our community safe!
