It’s an exciting time to be on the healthcare division of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA). Earlier this year we opened three new Minnesota Veterans Homes – an achievement for the record books! Here at the Minneapolis Veterans Home, we share in the glow that these opening celebrations bring to all our Minnesota Veterans Homes.
The Minneapolis Veterans Home is a beautiful campus located on 54 acres, with the Mississippi River on one side and Minnehaha Creek on the other. Our history is as long as the river! We’ve been serving Veterans going back to the Civil War. Yet, the facility is one of the most modern of its kind and provides a nurturing and rewarding environment for our Residents and team members. I can hardly walk down the hallway without coming across a colleague who’s been here for 15 or 20 years. In fact, we recently recognized nearly 80 staff members celebrating milestone anniversaries of at least five years. Additionally, five of our employees have been working here for 40 years or more.
As the son of a World War II Veteran – my father was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army – I’m honored to work with military Veterans who have served our country. Each day I’m reminded of what a privilege it is to care for people when they need us most.”
