We want to help the citizens in blue states, but they really need to start helping themselves by making better choices...

National Review (8/14/24) op-ed: "With Joe Biden having dropped out of the presidential race in favor of Kamala Harris, it is critical to have a robust conversation about Kamala Harris and her public-policy views…For starters, Harris needs to be asked to explain her flip-flop on fracking. If she really supports fracking now, she should speak publicly about it as she did when she was opposed to it. Having an unnamed campaign official speak privately with one publication, the Hill, to signal the policy flip, is not going to be enough to placate voters in energy-producing states. More than 90 percent of New Mexico’s oil and gas are generated through the fracking process. If that is eliminated entirely, New Mexico’s economy…will be devastated. Even a ban on fracking 'just' on federal lands (which the president could more easily mandate) would have massive impacts in New Mexico, where more than half of our oil is produced on federal lands."

"Tim Walz and Kamala Harris are birds of a feather. They care more about climate change than about inflation, and prefer the rights of solar panels and wind turbines to American jobs. Is this truly what Americans want?"

You can tell a lot about a candidate by the company they keep.

American Greatness (8/6/24) reports: "Shortly after Joe Biden announced his historic withdrawal from the 2024 election, Vice President Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) attended an online fundraiser with numerous prominent “green” activists and pledged to support far-left environmental proposals as president. According to the Washington Free Beacon, the July 25th event raised a mere $100,000 for Harris’ campaign as she was still struggling to shore up support to become the presumptive nominee. Speakers at the event praised Harris for supporting the Green New Deal and for vowing to ban all fracking, positions that she has since attempted to walk back since becoming the nominee. One of the co-hosts of the event was Leah Stokes, a consultant with the environmental firm Rewiring America...Another co-host of the call was Saad Amer, an environmental consultant for the United Nations, who praised Harris for vowing to push 'real goals, aggressive goals' in the fight against so-called global warming. He emphasized her support for a plan to cut all carbon emissions in the United States in half by the year 2030. The event was orchestrated by Give Green, a fundraising platform with an emphasis on Democrats who believe in the threat of global warming. Give Green was founded by green activists associated with the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)."

News Flash:  You can be for EVs and against subsidizing and mandating EVs at the exact same time.

E&E News (8/14/24) reports: "Former President Donald Trump frequently disparages electric vehicle charging stations on the campaign trail, exaggerating their weaknesses. At a rally in Florida last month, he said, “You don’t want to drive for 45 minutes and then stop for three hours…. On the campaign trail, Trump has focused on ending what he terms President Joe Biden’s EV “mandate,' referring to EPA emission regulations that effectively would spur automakers to produce rising numbers of electric cars, even though there is no direct requirement to do so. In recent weeks, he has shifted his rhetoric to say he supports EVs generally but wants the market to drive their use. Luxury travelers are driving more and more EVs, and as a hotelier, Trump is obliged to service them. Yet EV chargers, and the administration’s efforts to fund them, remain a focus of Trump attacks. Tom Pyle, head of the right-leaning American Energy Alliance and a former member of Trump’s 2016 transition team, said the gap between the former president’s message and practice makes sense. 'I think what the president is trying to do is show the folly of this agenda to force EVs into the market place through subsidies, through regulations, through mandates,' Pyle said. But he added, 'If you’re in the luxury resort business and you’re not being responsive to your customers, then you’re not a very good businessman.'"

It kinda seems like Axios is disappointed...

Axios (8/13/24) reports: "Elon Musk gently tried steering Donald Trump toward acknowledging climate risks and backing some kind of energy transition — and didn't get far. The Tesla boss has endorsed Trump and has his ear. The pair chatted Monday night for two hours on X in an interview delayed by glitches. Musk said he's against vilifying the oil and gas industry, and noted that its products remain central to the energy system. 'I think we should just generally, lean in the direction of sustainability,' he said, and warned of risks from massive increases in atmospheric CO2. 'I'm a big fan of, like, let's have an inspiring future, and let's work towards, you know, a better future and let's do so without demonizing people,' Musk said. Trump offered little reciprocation even when Musk cautiously discussed sustainability, though he did ask Musk about putting solar panels on EVs and said solar works in 'certain areas.' Then he quickly pivoted. 'The one thing that I don't understand is that people talk about global warming, or they talk about climate change, but they never talk about nuclear warming,' Trump said, using his unusual term for risks from nuclear weapons. Trump also downplayed climate impacts, at one point drastically misstating projected sea-level rise on the low end, and then quipping 'you'll have more oceanfront property, right?'"
