John,
Presidents are not kings. Presidents should not be above the law.
These should not be controversial statements. But last month, the Supreme Court ruled that Donald Trump is immune from prosecution for official acts while in office—effectively signing off on giving presidents absolute immunity for a wide swath of lawbreaking, including political assassinations, bribes for pardons and selling access to classified secrets.
The Supreme Court's immunity decision granted Donald Trump even more sweeping immunity than he asked for.
It's not an overstatement to say that this immunity ruling is a crisis for our system of checks and balances. This decision must be reversed.
This constitutional amendment, introduced by Rep. Joe Morelle, the ranking member of the Committee on House Administration, would reaffirm that presidents do not have immunity for crimes. It would also specifically bar presidents from pardoning themselves.
John, this is too important to wait. Congress must immediately pass this constitutional amendment and end presidential immunity for good. Sign our petition to Congress demanding they end presidential immunity and ban self pardons→
Thanks for adding your name,
CREW
