Last week Governor Josh Green joined local leaders on Maui to mark the one-year anniversary of the wildfires that devastated Lahaina and other areas.

The governor also visited the La‘ikū temporary housing project on Lahainaluna Road, in support of the ongoing efforts to provide housing for families displaced by the disaster.

La‘ikū — which means ‘a calming space’ — is being developed in a partnership between the state Departments of Transportation and Education, together with the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement and the Hawaii Community Foundation Maui Strong Fund.

La‘ikū will provide 16 two-bedroom, one-bath units of 560 square feet each — part of a broad effort to build 1,044 units of transitional housing to meet the community’s temporary housing needs.

Led by Governor Green, the coalition of state, local, and federal partners engaged in the recovery effort on Maui has now moved more than 99% of those displaced into long-term housing, and has built or begun an additional 810 new units of permanent housing across four projects.

If you support Josh’s continuing efforts to provide housing for displaced families and help Maui recover and heal, please consider making a small donation today. [[link removed]]
