John,
There were over 350 school shootings last year — the highest ever
recorded.
Over the next few weeks, students across the country are returning to
their classrooms. Their biggest worries should be homework and math tests.
Instead, they’re wondering if this is the year their lockdown drills will
become reality.
But people like JD Vance think this is a “fake problem.” Leaders in
Tennessee and Iowa want to put guns in classrooms, not prevent school
shootings. You know as well as we do, though,
John: Guns. Don’t. Make. Us.
Safer.
In fact, studies show that armed guards don’t reduce school shootings, and
in some cases can even increase the overall threat to students. And arming
teachers? Don’t even get us started…
We need solutions that actually prevent shootings and we need them now.
Students need access to guidance counselors and social workers—in addition
to common sense laws that limit access to firearms. If we invest in
solutions that can only come into action once someone has arrived on
campus with a gun, we have failed and put our kids in danger.
Gun violence MUST be one of the first issues addressed post-election. We
can’t slow down our progress now. Time is running out and no more children
should have to die because the NRA wants to line their pockets from the
culture of fear and paranoia in America. [ [link removed] ]Sign our petition now and help
