Robert Peters for Senate LOGO

Hey Friend! It's Team Peters.

In the spirit of Team USA's amazing performance at the Olympics this year, we wanted to give you a run-down of all the medal-worthy solutions Senator Peters was able to propose, sponsor, and pass this session!

🥇 The Comprehensive Healthcare Protection Act ensures folks can get the care they need and deserve by addressing ghost networks, extending the ban on on unjustifiable insurance rate hikes, banning prior authorization for mental health care, and mandating the public disclosure of treatments requiring prior authorization

🥇 The Ban on Captive Audience Meeting and Child Labor Overhaul Initiatives protects all working people from predatory corporations and harmful practices. Banning employer-led political, anti-union, and religious meetings helps to protect employee rights and promote healthy workplace environments in Illinois—and for the first time in nearly 75 years, working children will also have increased protections to keep them safe and fairly compensated.

🥇Diversifying the Adult Redeploy Illinois board to make sure everyone affected by the ARI process had a say in addressing systemic challenges and implementing equitable solutions. The legislation increases flexibility in funding for the board to adapt to emerging needs and support initiatives aimed to improve outcomes for folks affected by the program.

Although Sen. Peters had to jump through hurdles, he made sure to stay on track, stick the landing, and help pass dozens of bills to make our communities safer and stronger. 😉

And we want him to come back to the next session with his impressive record and skills to help us reach new heights—and that means we're working hard to get him and other IL progressives re-elected this fall. Friend, could you chip in today to join Team Peters and help the Senator continue our community's winning streak?

Thank you,

Team Peters 🎉

Senator Robert Peters was born in 1985 deaf and with a massive speech impediment. His biological mother was addicted to drugs and alcohol, and his adopted mother and father were a social worker and a civil rights lawyer. He saw first hand the impact and devastation of the racist war on drugs.

As he grew up, he admired the work his father did as a civil rights and criminal defense attorney, challenging wrongdoing by the police. This combined with the effect of the criminalization of addiction, inspired his work on criminal justice reform rooted in the safety, freedom, and wellness of all people.

A defining moment for Peters was the Great Recession, as he struggled to find work and lost his parents within a year and a half of each other. He found his power through political organizing in solidarity with a variety of organizations in Chicago fighting for justice.

As a state senator, Peters has championed the end of cash bail in Illinois after years of organizing around it before becoming a Senator. This legislative session alone, Peters has passed six bills out of the Senate, as he continues to push Illinois forward as a leader in criminal justice reform and true public safety for all. He chairs the Labor Committee in the Senate and is Chair of the Senate Black Caucus. He is focused on environmental justice, racial justice, economic freedom, and public safety for all.
