A message from the Leader: give your views on our libraries
Cllr Neghat Khan
I would like to thank everyone who has had their say on our library consultation so far - including those who joined me and senior officers at the public meeting at the Council House this afternoon. There was a good discussion with lots of questions over two hours about the future of the City's Library Service.
It’s crucial to gather a wide range of voices, opinions and experiences to accurately reflect the thoughts of everyone who lives, works or studies in Nottingham. It's hugely important that we listen to all views before we can agree next steps on our libraries.
So far, close to 3,500 people have taken part in the consultation since it launched May and offered their views. I would urge people to take part in the survey to discuss proposals before the consultation closes on Monday.

Nottingham Carnival
Join in the Nottingham Carnival spirit this weekend
Numerous troupes from Nottingham and beyond will be taking part in the colourful Carnival Parade on Sunday 18 August, which starts at 2pm and is free to watch.
The Parade route will start on the Victoria Embankment, head up Wilford Grove, Felton Road and Green Street before making its way back down to the Embankment via Bunbury Street, returning to the Carnival site via Wilford Grove, where they will perform on the dedicated stage within the Carnival festival site. The complete Parade should take no more than 2 hours and you can watch for free at any point along the route.
There will be hundreds of stunning costumes made brand new for the Parade, plus Moko Jumbies - a West African tradition of costumed dancers on stilts, and amazing Caporales San Simon from Bolivia.
Carnival Wayne Wonder
International reggae star Wayne Wonder headlines the Carnival festival at Victoria Embankment. The Grammy-nominated artist has been a consistent hitmaker of extraordinary songs since the late 80s, becoming globally renowned in 2003 with the single "No Letting Go".
The Carnival festival site will feature the Main Stage, Soca Stage and Millennium Stage with live bands, DJs and sound systems. Joining Wayne Wonder on the line-up will be V Rocket, Gambino Akuboy (as seen on "Britain's Got Talent"), Claire Angel, Big Ship Alliance, Escobar, Rastarella, Suga Lion, Dial Tone, and DJ Steel.
The dedicated Windrush Zone will feature Europe's first steel band, the Nostalgia Street Orchestra, an exhibition, advice clinic, poetry and more. On site there will also be trade stalls, world food stalls, a licensed bar, and fairground rides, as well as a kids zone with activities.
Tickets are £5 in advance - available until 10am on Sunday (after this it's £7 on the door). Kids 12 and under go free. Car parking is £6 all day. Book tickets here [ [link removed] ].

Paris Olympics
So proud of our local Olympians
Huge congratulations to Nottingham-born Olympians Emma Wilson and Emily Campbell who have returned from the Paris Games with more medals for Team GB.
Emma won her country’s first women’s windsurfing medal since 2008 when she took bronze at Tokyo four years ago and she followed that up with another bronze this time. Meanwhile, Emily wrote her name into the history books when she won Team GB’s first ever women’s weightlifting medal in Tokyo with silver in the +87kg category. She took home a bronze from Paris this time.
Well done, both. We’re hugely proud of your achievements and what they mean to our city.
Best of luck, too, to all athletes taking part in the Paris Paralympics, which start on 28 August.
