Friend, every child has the right to an equitable and quality education, regardless of who they are or where they live. That's why I created The Kids in Need of Desks (K.I.N.D.) Fund – a partnership between UNICEF USA and MSNBC that provides desks and girls scholarships to students in Malawi.
Since its launch in 2010, The K.I.N.D. Fund has delivered over 385,000 school desks to primary students in Malawi, reaching more than 1.5 million learners across the country, improving their learning experience and outcomes and has supported nearly 28,650 schoolgirls with scholarships to complete their secondary education thanks to the generosity of Last Word viewers.
The K.I.N.D. Fund has made it possible for children to learn and thrive, while overcoming financial obstacles in pursuit of their dreams. For years, children, especially young girls at risk of missing out on school, have received tuition assistance, desks and learning materials.

It’s been a privilege to meet with students and scholarship beneficiaries in Malawi who have received support from The K.I.N.D. Fund and witness firsthand the real-life impact this partnership has had on millions of learners.
During my last visit to Malawi, young schoolgirls with ambitions of becoming nurses and teachers expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to continue their education and pursue their dreams. Primary school students shared their excitement of sitting at desks for the very first time.
