Race + Power Weekly

In today’s Race + Power newsletter, we focus on the wellbeing of children and the hope for a more equitable future. First, a federal report documents the 150-year history of “Indian boarding schools,” in which children were systematically taken from their parents—and calls for a federal apology. Next, international adoptions present ethical and systemic issues that put children’s wellbeing at risk. Advocates emphasize the need to prioritize children’s welfare, especially during times of crisis. Then, in late July, a record-setting number of White men joined an online call in support of the presidential candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris—but does it matter? Finally, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expires at the end of 2025, presenting an opportunity for the tax code to be written in a way that is more equitable.
