MEDIA ADVISORY AND PRESS RELEASE
Congressman Al Green Joins Leaders to Address Concerns Over Governor Abbott’s Executive Order on Emergency Care for Undocumented Immigrants
(Houston, TX) — On Thursday, August 15, 2024, Congressman Al Green and leaders will address the controversial emergency healthcare executive order signed by Governor Greg Abbott earlier this month. Congressman Al Green believes that this action is part and parcel to Governor Abbott’s simplistic Texas two-step immigration reform program to:
1. Keep them out and
2. Kick them out
Congressman Al Green will explain further Governor Abbott’s keep them out, kick them out program at the press conference.
Congressman Al Green stated, “It is deeply concerning and unacceptable that Governor Abbott's executive order is forcing undocumented immigrants in Texas to endure such circumstances. Status questions will further discourage an already under-hospitalized population to further delay necessary medical interventions for fear of mistreatment due to their citizenship status. These delays will put lives gravely at risk, and ultimately cost our society more down the line. Healthcare should be equally accessible to all, regardless of race, sex, creed, or citizenship status. It is a fundamental human right to receive emergency healthcare services. We must uphold public health and well-being."
